BAA Cabin Luggage Announcement (February 2009)

BAA has recommended that passengers double-check the polices of their airlines in regards to baggage allowances. Previously the BAA had enforced restrictions as to the number of bags passengers were allowed to carry on board the flight. The One bag per passenger rule is now being lifted however the ultimate decision is at the behest of the airline.
At Gatwick Airport, significant engineering works are underway, which will allow the restriction to be lifted in the near future. As part of a phased approach, from 7 January, passengers connecting flights through Gatwick’s South Terminal will be able to travel with more than one piece of hand bag if their airline allows. This will also apply for passengers on connecting flights only via the North Terminal from 11 February

Update on the NEC Autumn Fair 2008 (November 2008)

Sunrise bags is pleased to announce its success at the NEC 2008 autumn fair by significantly increasing its market share whilst at the same time securing two of the biggest retailers in the bag industry. Some of our new clients that we now officially supply as a result of the fair include TJ Hughes and The Bag Shop of Ireland. Our overwhelming success has been largely attributed to the offshore manufacturing plant Sunrise owns in Nantong, China. The transfer of the plant from Wolverhampton to Nantong has resulted in a massive 60% reduction is the cost of manufacture. This saving has in turn enabled the firm to freeze prices even in the face of a growing market downturn. The staff at Sunrise Bags would like to thank all those who attending the stand and appreciate all the warm comments the firm received. We look forward to seeing you all at Autumn Fair 2009.

Sunrise reports 12% increase in sales for the third quarter of 2008 (November 2008)

The firm is pleased to announce a 12% increase in sales for the third financial quarter of 2008 compared to the same time last year. According to Sunrise bags Business Development Director, Satnam Kular, ‘the firm has benefitted from freezing its prices for the last four months whilst its competitors have been forced to pass on the costs of increased manufacturing, fuel and raw material costs’ the firms success story despite the recent financial downturn has been attributed to its off shore manufacturing plant in Nantong, China. By significantly reducing the cost of manufacturing, the firm has been able to freeze prices and even offer credit underwritten by the firm itself. Another reason for these optimistic figures is that the credit crunch is driving consumers to seek cheaper comparable goods. Cut price giants such as Netto, Poundland and liddle have also reported similar profits cementing the case that consumers are purchasing a lot more budget consumer goods.

Price freeze (September 2008)

The last three financial quarters have witnessed significant increases in world wide fuel prices and this has made a major impact on the cost of freight from China to the UK and from our distribution hubs to our customers. The increase on fuel charges should have impacted on Sunrises trade sales price by around 4% but in an attempt to stabilize its market share, the firm has decided to freeze its prices which were set in the second quarter of 2008. The offshore manufacturing operation has enabled company to retain its market share but in stark contrast, many of the firm’s competitors have been left with no choice but to pass on the fuel duty to their own customers. This in turn has benefitted Sunrise as its sales team has witnessed increased sales for the last two consecutive months.

In addition to the above the firm has also launched another distribution hub in Derry, Northern Ireland which has been designed to serve the whole of mainland Ireland. If you would like to obtain further information regarding the Irish venture please contact Ireland@sunrisebags.co.uk

Bags for life (August 2008)

Sunrise bags are continuing its eco friendly policy by adding new shopping bags or ‘bags’ for life to its product range. Not only does the use of these bags contribute to the reduction in harmful free shopping bags at the checkout but the actual materials used for our bags for life product are made from 30% recycled plastics.
Whilst every effort is made to reduce Sunrise Bags carbon footprint, we acknowledge that the challenge is to be as carbon neutral as possible. To aid this, the firm has sourced 15% of its manufactured materials from recycled plastics. In order to reduce the amount of fuel used for shipping from China to the rest of the world, shipping containers are offered as a method of delivery direct to customers on demand. Not only does this method reduce the time taken in freight, this methodology also reduces the number of kilometers/per liter during transportation.

Manufacturing operations in China (August 2008)

The operation in Nantong, China is one of the major reasons why Sunrise Bags is flourishing in these challenging economic times. Despite the weakening of the pound and the increased rise of raw materials, the cost saving by moving the manufacturing plant east has ensured that the company remains industrious, competitive and profitable.
The ethical and pro environmental values that the directors at Sunrise adhere to are transmitted throughout the spine of the business and are equally observed outside the UK.
There are certain schools of thought that prefer to use the metaphor ‘sweat shop’ when describing European offshore manufacturing and China. Whilst these types of assumptions are centered on exploitation and poor working conditions, Sunrise Bags is pleased to evidence its operations as fair, ethical and even best practice.
The high ethical principles enforced, ensure that our 200 Nantong workers are well equipped and enjoy healthy conditions. To cap all the above, Sunrise prides it self by paying its offshore staff excellent salary rates and has even developed a pension plan unique to the region.
Whilst creating the plant, Sunrise also contributed to the local community by donating sufficient funds to operate a school for staff children that are situated 0.5km from the plant. The school caters for around 80 Children between the ages of five to eleven.
