Company History

Starting off as a family business run manufacturing and distribution business , Sunrise Bags began trading as ‘K&S’ during 1986 where operations were run from the 5000 square ft warehouse at Cockshuts Lane in Wolverhampton. Its core services included the manufacturing and distributing affordable rucksacks, holdalls, and luggage.
In August 1992, the company was renamed to the current name ‘Sunrise Bags Company Ltd’. By concentrating on the ‘economy luggage market’ the company enjoyed a period of heavy and sustained growth and expanded its operations by moving into its current headquarters, a 30,000 square ft three 3 story height distribution centre at Sunrise House on Marston road, Wolverhampton.
By 2001, Sunrise expanded its distribution channels in the UK by registering its own brands Compass (Travel in style), Eclipse (Outdoor specialist), Miss K (Fashion Bags) This was followed by the opening of new hubs in Manchester, Birmingham and Greater London, allowing customers to buy direct and allowing the firm to gain a foothold in larger distinguished UK retailers.
With record sales between the period 2003-2006, Sunrise planned to open additional hubs within Scotland and Wales but was forced to reconsider as it began to face the effects growing manufacturing costs within the UK. Faced with this dilemma, Sunrise would have to consider more efficient ways of manufacturing and distribution. In the summer of 2007, the firm acknowledged the need to restructure its logistical operations by opting to transfer its entire manufacturing process offshore to a plant in Nantong, China.
By moving its manufacturing plant offshore, Sunrise nominated the then vacant manufacturing plant in Wolverhampton to act as the main distribution centre for the UK and Ireland. The firms expanded storage facilities have enabled Sunrise to deliver to its customers own clients directly or alternatively enable its clients a stock on demand scenario. This increase of an additional 30,000 Square ft also enabled Sunrise to stock a greater variety of products; Sunrise now boasts over 600 lines and holds over £2million of stock at all times.
As a consequence of this re structuring, Sunrise is also able to offer direct container shipping to our customers at request. This can help save cost and reduces the price of the products as we no longer need to store the container in our premises. This is also more environmentally friendly as it reduces transportation, thus keeping our carbon footprint as low as possible.
